Schnoodle is a dog that is a hybrid, or cross-breed, of a Schnauzer and a Poodle.
A Schnoodle does not have to be 50% Poodle and 50% Schnauzer, but may be a
multi-generation cross.Bar -Mor's breeds only First generation Schnoodles.
Since the gene pool is widely mixed in cross breeding, hybrids such as the Schnoodle
are less likely than purebred dogs to have a genetic disorder. Over time, cross breeding
may 'breed out' some qualities in dogs such as shedding. For example, both Schnauzers
and Poodles are known for not shedding, so a Schnoodle is even more likely not to
shed. However, when breeds with different characteristics are combined,
no characteristic can be guaranteed.
Purebred dogs are more predictable because they have been bred consistently
with one breed of dog over generations. Each breed has the same basic
characteristics in how they will look, what their hunting skills will be,
what their temperament will be and how they will interact with children,
strangers and other dogs. The Schnoodle, as a cross breed, could take
more after the Schnauzer side or more after the Poodle side. Schnauzers
and Poodles look quite different, yet their temperaments are quite similar.
Both the Poodle and the Schnauzer are thought to be intelligent,
affectionate and like to be with their human companions.
A Schnoodle is therefore very likely to have these same personality characteristics.
However, environment and how much a dog is socialized also make a lot of
difference in their temperament.
A Poodle has more rounded features than a Schnauzer as well as a curlier coat.
A Schnauzer is often very square-featured, with a squarish body, and squared beard.
Therefore, a Schnoodle could look more like a Schnauzer or more like a Poodle,
or like a combination of both.
