Frequently Asked Questions
This is a brief review of some of our most frequently asked questions. If you have something that isn't covered here, please feel free to contact us at any time!
How much are your puppies?
All of our puppies are $1850. This does not change based on color, gender, time of year, or holiday seasons. Some breeders will adjust pricing based on these factors, however we do not. This price includes any deposits required (including wait list deposit) and is non-refundable.
Are your dogs health tested?
We perform DNA on all of our parents. While each breed has it's own specific issues, we primarily look for overlapping problems that would transfer to offspring. Ideally we look for parents clear of all negative traits, however recessive genes are possible. This only becomes a problem if both parents carry negative genes of the same trait.
How big do your puppies get at maturity?
Generally our range carries from 16 to 22 pounds at adult weight. Unfortunately genetics can throw curveballs at us, and we can see pups above and below that range, however most typically end up in that area. Sizes are impossible to predict accurately, but we're usually pretty close.
What types of coats do your puppies usually have?
This is another area where genetics can throw us a curveball and make it hard to predict despite parental coats. Typically speaking, our pups can develop a thick, but wavy type coat if Cocker dominant genes are at play. If poodle genes are more prominent, we will see a much more curly coat. Past that, we do have adults that carry genes for flat coat offspring (also called smoothies) which can pop up in a litter as well. Unfortunately we do not guarantee coat types.
When should i join the wait list?
It's always good to join early. If you have a time restraint or have a color/gender request, we make note of that and only contact you once we can meet your needs. Joining early assures you will be in a good position once we can meet those requirements. We do charge a wait list fee of $100, which is included in the total price. Wait list fees are donated to local humane societies and are only refundable if we fail to meet your requested gender/color in a reasonable amount of time. If you fail to respond to communications regarding available litters, or remove yourself from the list at any time, those funds are forfeited.
I'm not local but want a BarMor puppy. How can we make this happen?
We have a few options to cover this. First, if you live in the northeast, we can transport your puppy by car. We can go door to door, or even find a mid-point meeting spot. Standard Meeting points in Buffalo, Binghamton, or Albany have a flat rate while all others use a $1.62/mile + tolls rate from our location.
Out of state? We have two options. First, you can opt to fly to one of our two local airports. Rochester (ROC) or Syracuse (SYR) are both an hour from our location and incur a flat delivery fee of $100. If Flying to us is not an option, we can enlist the help of an air nanny. These costs generally include flight costs as well as fee for the nanny as well. these would be discussed on a per trip basis
I can't pick up my puppy on the specified dates.
While we encourage everyone to pick from a litter that doesn't interfere with vacations or travel plans. Every moment after pickup is crucial to a puppies development and bonding with its new human at a particularly important time where they absorb things very quickly and easily. We understand this isn't always possible, and will board your puppy for a short time after their scheduled departure. This will incur a $25/day boarding fee for a maximum of 2 weeks.
Do your puppies have tails?
Recently we made the decision to stop docking tails on our puppies. If you would rather have your puppies tail docked, this is still an option, however there are conditions for this to happen. If this is something you'd like to discuss, please let us know as soon as possible prior to the litter being born. After 3 days of age, this is no longer available as an option. Dew claws are still removed as a standard practice.
Do your puppies come with micro chips?
Yes! Every puppy leaves our home with a pre-paid lifetime registered ID chip installed. These are provided by AKC Reunite, and come standard. Registration can be done online, or by mail. We require all chips to be registered within 10 days of pickup. Failure to register will result in cancellation of our health guarantee.
Are vaccinations included?
We follow a strict 6/10/14 week vaccination schedule for our puppies. Along with standard preventative deworming at 2/4/6 weeks, your puppy will receive its first 5 way vaccination prior to departure. at 6 weeks, your puppy will receive it's first dose of Nobivac 1-DAPPv which covers distemper, adenovirus type 1&2, parainfluenza, and parvovirus. Your vet will follow up with booster shots at 10 and 14 weeks, along with a rabies shot at that final appointment.
Do your puppies come spayed or neutered?
NO! We have noticed an alarming trend of breeders sending puppies home at 8 weeks with these procedures already done. This should not happen while a puppy is still developing and we STRONG encourage this to not be done prior to 6 months of age on any animal. Your vet will arrange an appointment when they reach maturity and are physically ready for the procedure.
Do you have a warranty?
Our puppies come with a 1 year health guarantee against congenital defects resulting in death. Once you have selected your puppy, a copy of our health agreement will be sent to you for review and to digitally sign and return to us via Docusign.
Do we need to fill out an application?
While we do not require an application to adopt our puppies, we do perform a background check on all potential families. We will request information from you at the time of adoption to process this
Do you allow visitation?
While the selection process for new litters is completed online, we do allow visits once you have selected your puppy. These visits will be non contact up until 6 weeks of age. After 6 weeks, we will allow a full contact visits with your puppy as the litter will have begun vaccination protocol at that time. If we have older puppies than have not been adopted, you are welcome to visit them if you are interested in adoption. This policy is in place to prevent the possible transfer of germs or disease that could impact the health of our puppies.
What does my puppy come home with?
At the time of departure, you will receive a bag with several items in it, First, all puppies go home with a new Lambchop. This is non negotiable! Along with Lamby, you will receive a small toy and a blanket that have spent time with the litter. This will retain the scent of your puppies littermates in an attempt to make the transition to your home easier on them. You will also receive a days worth of Pro-Plan Sport 30/20 chicken and rice (all life stages) which is what we feed them from day 1. An envelope will include your puppies health record, health certificate, a cheat sheet with information pertaining to feeding, potty training, and other information I will go over at pickup. There will also be information on your ID chip, and a book to help begin the training process.
We have adopted a puppy from you, now what?
Congrats! You are now part of the Bar-Mor Family, and I mean FAMILY. We have a very active Facebook group Where I, as well and many of our other families, frequent with conversations and updates about all of our pups. You are more than welcome to join. These is a link on the front page, just send us a request to join. Now that we've done that, All that's left is to pick a name, arrange your pickup time on specified dates for your litter, and wait! We try our best to update the website with pictures at the 2/4/6 week mark for each litter, however several factors of everyday life and a full time job outside of the wild kingdom can delay that. We will also post random pictures and video in the FB group as the pups are out and about.
